Best-selling Author, Writing Coach, and Editor
Welcome to my inner circle! Here you get exclusive looks at my writing process, works in progress, and life!
My name is Victoria McCombs, and I'm the best-selling author of The Storyteller's Daughter, a YA Rumpelstiltskin retelling from Parliament House Press. I'm also a mom of two little boys (one on the way! It's gonna be crazy over here!) and a wife to one of the greatest guys on the planet who happens to have zero interest in books but he supports me anyway. I give the main guy in each of my books one key characteristic based on my husband as a tribute to him!
I like to emphasize that I write clean young adult fantasy. My books usually consist of sword-fighting adventures, dark fairytales, deep curses, ambitious pirates, and traitorous princes. I enjoy fast, plot-driven books with charming characters, slow burn romance, and villains you can root for. Some favorite authors are Adrienne Young (Sky in the Deep), Brigid Kemmerer (A Curse so Dark and Lonely), Erin A. Craig (House of Salt and Sorrows), Victoria Aveyard (The Red Queen), and Stephanie Garber (Caraval).
The tabs above will show you more about my upcoming books!
I also offer coaching packages!
A writing coach is someone who comes along side you to help you write a stellar book, sets deadlines so it gets done, and walks you through the publishing industry (which can be daunting, I know!) I will be more than a sounding board, I will give ideas on plot twists, character motivations, and emotional endings. I will do everything I can to make your book one that flies off the shelves.
Does this sound like you?
Have a great book idea but don't know where to start?
Have written several books but never finished one?
Dream about writing a best-seller?
Are intimidated by the publishing industry and need help to navigate?
Have already published a book but want help making the next one even better?
Then let's talk, see if we are a good fit, and create the book you were meant to write.

His shadowed face lit by flames,
Rumpelstiltskin is my name...
For as long as anyone can remember, every child in Westfallen has been born with a Gift, and these Gifts defined them.
Then Cosette is born, Giftless.
An attempt to hide her misfortune brings her before the King, who entraps her to use her Gift as a pawn in his war.
Caught in a lie, Cosette desperately searches for a power strong enough to free her. Intrigued by whispers of an old king and a dark curse, she calls upon Rumpelstiltskin and finds him trapped in a magic deeper than she bargained for. Now, Cosette must fight to reclaim her freedom from the King and break Rumpel’s curse. When time runs out, she’ll lose more than her heart. She’ll lose her life.
The Woods of Silver and Light
Coming February 2021
Book two in the Storyteller's Series
Robin Hood's son is dead, and Maid Marion is gone.
But now a sorceress banished to the Woods can offer Robin Hood's son back, if he and his Silver Raiders are willing to do something for her first. She finds there's nothing Robin Hood wouldn't do for his son…
Anika is drawn to the mystery of the Woods and the thieves who live within. But the cost of associating with the Silver Raiders becomes higher than Anika was willing to pay, and the darkness of the Woods seeps into the Silver Raiders hearts, blurring the lines between a hero and a villain, until Anika’s fight for freedom turns into a fight for survival from the dangers of the trees whose magic should never have been awoken.
This tale of Robin Hood is different than you remember.
The Winter Charlatan

Book three in the Storyteller's Series
A Queen raised in the shadows, and a Fraud Prince who needs her help.
The sole heir to the kingdom is destined to sleep for a hundred years. To hide this liability, the queen left her cursed daughter in the care of a trusted lord, while taking his son as her own. Rowan grew up hating the boy who had her crown and vowed to one day reclaim her place as queen.
But when a neighboring king threatens a war they won’t survive, Rowan must work with the fraud prince to save Elenvérs. She pledges herself as his spy in the enemy court and lives in the heart of danger. If she can’t save her kingdom before the curse hits, there may be nothing left to wake up to.
Heir of Roses
Book four in The Storyteller's Series
While my Storyteller Series is made of companion novels (can be read independently), if you read the description for Heir of Roses, you will find out a spoiler for the end of Winter Charlatan.
You have been warned.
“We will find a girl fit enough to rule. Pure, strong, and enchanting. A queen of roses.”
Last chance. Here is the spoiler.
Rowan’s sleeping curse is broken by a stranger's kiss. Their happily ever after should begin, but they aren't in love. They struggle to develop feelings as plots of betrayal, mysterious deaths, and a sword-wielding mother-in-law challenge them.
When the king sets up a Queen’s Competition as an attempt to settle unrest, Rowan’s place is threatened. She must fight for the prince she ought to love to secure his position at court, while competing in challenges that seek to unravel her, bit by bit. For though they can force her to compete, she’s the only competitor who knows she can never truly win.
Just as Rowan finds her place, a poison apple could destroy it all.
The conclusion to The Storyteller's Series is here.
A pirate adventure
Book one in The Royal Rose Chronicles
Coming February 2022 from Enclave Publishing
The sea takes more than she expects.
The sea gives more than he asked for.
Emme’s mother was a ruthless pirate who loved the seas more than her daughter, even as the waters drowned her. Because of her, Emme hates the sea. But the fates are cruel. A sickness coils around Emme’s heart, and a distant island is her only hope of survival. Which means setting sail across her mother’s sea with the pirate, Arn.
Arn’s secrets are darker than the deep and threaten to kill them all. He once sailed under the king’s flag, but now he’s bound himself to a man of dark deals and a life of piracy. He must steal a fabled treasure twice over—first from the island, then from his crew. But it could cost the things he loves most. His ship, and his heart.
Then a black ship appears in the night—never attacking, always watching. One by one the crew’s minds go mad, until they realize they can’t all reach the island alive. Arn must make a sacrifice, while Emme might have to become as wicked of a pirate as her mother to survive.
Beware the waters. The dangerous deep brings ruin upon all.
Book Two in the Royal Rose Chronicles (my dramatic pirate's trilogy)
Emme has one task: kill the king of Julinbor. But kings are not easy to kill. This king has banished pirates from his seas, making Emme’s job more dangerous as she becomes hunted. She learns to survive the pirate way—cunning and ruthless—while consoling herself with one fact: she’s just doing what it takes to get home.
But now a second person has come forth with a promise for Emme—that through her, much blood will be spilled. Even if she can fulfill her oathbinding and heal her disease, some fates cannot be outrun.
Together, Arn and Emme hunt down the king. Arn vows to take on the darkness for her, but when Emme mistakenly kills the wrong man, even Arn might not be able to save her from the consequences.
One thing is for certain: you can never trust a pirate.
The fae are only seen once a year when they come to the five islands to choose their next Mortal Queen and steal her away. Theadore has long dreamed of the lavish realm that no one returns from. Then she’s chosen, and it’s not what she thought.
The fae realm is a dangerous game of riches, lies, alliances, and trickery. Wording is everything. Friendship means nothing. Always be on your guard. It’s a game no Mortal Queen has survived before—always dying exactly two years after being selected.
Mere mortals weren’t made to withstand the intoxication of the fae realm.
Lost in the game, Theadore hides messages in her paintings and is answered anonymously by one who shows her the tale of a girl who outwitted the fae. Only if Thea is clever enough will she survive the fate of being the Mortal Queen.
The Honor of a Spy
An unpublished novel.

Their alliance depends on Elijah and their mission to the Giant-Kind land.
