Victoria McCombs

Best-selling Author of twisty, moody fantasy

Welcome to my inner circle! Here you get exclusive looks at my writing process, works in progress, and life!

My name is Victoria McCombs, and I'm the best-selling author of YA fantasy. I have three current series out, a compellation of four fairytales, a pirate trilogy from Enclave Publishing, and a fae duology (book two coming) from Enclave Publishing.

I'm a MIDWEST author (Nebraska) and would love to travel for book fairs or events! Feel free to reach out!

I survive on hazelnut coffee, Jesus, and a healthy fear of my deadlines (and my children, which I have four of.)

My books usually consist of sword-fighting adventures, dark fairytales, deep curses, ambitious pirates, and traitorous princes. I enjoy fast, plot-driven books with charming characters, slow burn romance, and villains you can root for. Some favorite authors are Adrienne Young (Sky in the Deep), Brigid Kemmerer (A Curse so Dark and Lonely), Erin A. Craig (House of Salt and Sorrows), Rachel Gillig (One Dark Window), and Stephanie Garber (Caraval).

The tabs above will show you more about my books!

RIGHTS AND PERMISSIONS:

Oathbound

A pirate adventure
Book one in The Royal Rose Chronicles from Enclave Publishing

The sea takes more than she expects.

The sea gives more than he asked for.

Emme’s mother was a ruthless pirate who loved the seas more than her daughter, even as the waters drowned her. Because of her, Emme hates the sea. But the fates are cruel. A sickness coils around Emme’s heart, and a distant island is her only hope of survival. Which means setting sail across her mother’s sea with the pirate, Arn.

The pirate captain's secrets are darker than the deep and threaten to kill them all. He once sailed under the king’s flag, but now he’s bound himself to a man of dark deals and a life of piracy. He must steal a fabled treasure twice over—first from the island, then from his crew. But it could cost the things he loves most. His ship, and his heart.

Then a black ship appears in the night—never attacking, always watching. One by one the crew’s minds go mad, until they realize they can’t all reach the island alive. Arn must make a sacrifice, while Emme might have to become as wicked of a pirate as her mother to survive.

Beware the waters. The dangerous deep brings ruin upon all.

Silver Bounty

Book Two in the Royal Rose Chronicles (my dramatic pirate's trilogy)

Emme has one task: kill the king of Julinbor. But kings are not easy to kill. This king has banished pirates from his seas, making Emme’s job more dangerous as she becomes hunted. She learns to survive the pirate way—cunning and ruthless—while consoling herself with one fact: she’s just doing what it takes to get home.

But now a second person has come forth with a promise for Emme—that through her, much blood will be spilled. Even if she can fulfill her oathbinding and heal her disease, some fates cannot be outrun.

Together, Arn and Emme hunt down the king. Arn vows to take on the darkness for her, but when Emme mistakenly kills the wrong man, even Arn might not be able to save her from the consequences.

One thing is for certain: you can never trust a pirate.

MORTAL QUEENS

A duology

They vanish without a trace, disappear into the night . . .

Each year on the center island, one girl is chosen to be the next Mortal Queen of the idolized fae. The mortals praise these lucky girls, but their daughters are never seen again.

The fae realm is eternal night, where disputes are settled by chess matches, power is acquired through the most devious kinds of trickery, and seven illusive kings roam. The fae hide their faces behind masks and guard their glass hearts to keep them from shattering. But beyond the veil of this luxurious paradise, a dark secret simmers, for their Queens have disappeared.

When aspiring artist Althea is selected, she is desperate to avoid the same mysterious fate. With no one to trust, she conceals messages in paintings and receives anonymous replies from a stranger who slowly reveals the tale of a girl who outwitted the fae. Only if she is clever enough will Althea survive the fate of the Mortal Queens. As long as the king who cannot love does not claim her first.

Heir of Roses

Book two in the Winter/Roses duology

Set in the same world as The Storyteller's Series

*Spoiler Alert!*

While my Storyteller Series is made of companion novels (can be read independently), if you read the description for Heir of Roses, you will find out a spoiler for the end of Winter Charlatan.

You have been warned.

“We will find a girl fit enough to rule. Pure, strong, and enchanting. A queen of roses.”

Last chance. Here is the spoiler.

Rowan’s sleeping curse is broken by a stranger's kiss. Their happily ever after should begin, but they aren't in love. They struggle to develop feelings as plots of betrayal, mysterious deaths, and a sword-wielding mother-in-law challenge them.

When the king sets up a Queen’s Competition as an attempt to settle unrest, Rowan’s place is threatened. She must fight for the prince she ought to love to secure his position at court, while competing in challenges that seek to unravel her, bit by bit. For though they can force her to compete, she’s the only competitor who knows she can never truly win.

Just as Rowan finds her place, a poison apple could destroy it all.

The conclusion to The Storyteller's Series is here.
